On this, their debut, the Hot Club of Cowtown jump out of the gate like a fired-up, pared down version of the Texas Playboys. A trio, their playing is light and assured, full of grins. What guitarist Whit Smith and fiddler Elana Fremerman lack in vocal prowess they make up for with honest chops and spirit. Swingin' Stampede captures the ambience of old-timey swing nearly to perfection.
