If these guys had a deutschmark for every stau on the autobahn they have been stuck in, on the way to play a gig, they indeed would be millionaires. Now it's three decades on the road...World touring and making records which brings us to Dirty Thirty. From the organ shuffle-based opener ''Death Tax'' to the closer ''Hear My Baby Naggin''', Dirty Thirty travels the back roads of the Golden age of American Rhythm and Blues paying homage to Chicago, New Orleans, Memphis and West Coast Blues traditions. Since then BB and the Blues Shacks have accumulated a treasure chest of road and musical experience with constant touring and backing many U.S. Artists on European tours. The core of the Arlt Brothers and Henning have been playing together so long they know exactly what the other is going to do &; play, and I'm sure at this point they can read each other's minds. Add the excellent musicianship of Fabian Fritz on Organ & Piano and drummer Andre Werkmeister and together they create a musical congealing element that rarely exists in bands today. If you ever tried to think of a name for your band you know how difficult it can be. Even though the boys never really liked their moniker ''BB and The Blues Shacks'', that's just too bad. Because after enduring 30 years in this dirty business and hundreds of thousands of fans from Dubai to Doheny they are stuck with it now.

Duitslands meest geprezen bluesband B.B. & The Blues Shacks heeft inmiddels reeds dertig jaren van opnemen en toeren achter de rug. In die drie decennia stonden zij op de meest gerenommeerde bluespodia. Niet verwonderlijk, want wat Andreas Arlt (gtr., voc.), Michael Arlt (voc., harmonica), Fabian Fritz (piano, organ), Henning Hauerken (upright & elect. Bass) en Andre Werkmeister (drums) presteren, kan zonder meer de vergelijking met Amerikaanse bands doorstaan. Niet alleen getuigen deze mannen van een enorme instrumentenbeheersing, maar hebben de broers Arilt ook het songschrijven onder de knie. Of het nu blues, sixties soul, jump of swing betreft, beide heren leveren in al deze genres formidabele nummers af. Nummers die ze voorzien van uitgekiende arrangementen. Steunend op een meer dan waanzinnige ritmesectie, ligt de weg open voor de sublieme zang- en bluespharpprestaties van Michael, Andreas’ gitaarwerk en Fabians toetsenpartijen.
Om hun 30-jarig bestaan luister bij te zetten, brengt de band een drie cd’s tellende box op de markt. De eerste cd is het in 2011 opgenomen ‘Come Along’. Je krijgt het integrale album aangevuld met een liveversie van ‘She Moves Me’. De tweede cd is het 3 jaar later uitgebrachte ‘Businessmen’. Ook hier krijg je een extra track, namelijk ‘Deep In The Heart Of Texas’, ook in een live uitvoering.
Op beide albums, die oorspronkelijk werden uitgebracht op het CrossCut label, wordt de band ondersteund door de No Blow No Show Horns. De 33 nummers bevatten blues, sixties soul, jump en swing van een uitermate hoog niveau.
Nieuw is het derde, toepasselijk ‘Dirty Thirty’ getiteld album. En ook hier zetten B.B. & The Blues Shacks gelukkig de kwaliteitstraditie verder. In opener, de shuffle ‘Death Tax’, trakteren Andreas en Fabian ons respectievelijk op gitaar en organ, al dadelijk op kippenvel bezorgende solo’s. Een klasbak van een slowblues is het door piano gestuurde en met bluesharp versierde ‘Three Handed Woman’. Wat early T-Birds klinkt door in ‘Not The One For Me’, terwijl je voor een dijk van een tearjerker terecht kan bij het soulvolle ‘Do To Me’. Een nummer dat het vakmanschap nogmaals in de spots plaatst, is het swingende, instrumentale ‘Crime Time’ met de gitaar van Andreas in de hoofdrol, waarna we met ‘Ain’t Gonna Cry No More’ richting New Orleans trekken.
Zonder de ondersteuning van een hornsection, komt er meer ruimte voor piano, orgel, gitaar en mondharmonica vrij. Ruimte die hier op een authentiek geïnspireerde manier wordt opgevuld. Aanstekelijke rhythm & blues, Chicagoblues, soul, de blues van New Orleans of van de West Coast, je krijgt het allemaal heerlijk voorgeschoteld op deze ’30 Years Of Blues Since 1989’ box. Een absolute aanrader!

The fantastic German blues band B.B. & The Blues Shacks exists 30 years. To celebrate that, the band releases this 3-CD box. The first CD is the album 'Come Along' from 2011, the second CD contains the album 'Businessmen' released in 2014 and the third CD contains the new album 'Dirty Thirty'. On CD 1 and CD 2 you get an extra live number. All 3 CDs contain blues, soul, jump and swing at an extremely high level. An absolute must!
