The Appalachain trio Critton Hollow turns in a thoroughly enjoyable slice of traditional string music with Great Dreams. When the group takes a stab at contemporary material, they sound somewhat forced, but when they stick toward standards like "Railroading on the Great Divide" and "Shacks and Chalets," they come up with simple, wonderful folk music. Of special note is Sam Herrmann's dulcimer, which adds a new dimension to several cuts on the album.
