Gwen Perry – The Ability To Swing

Although Gwen Perry came from a jazz background where she was performing in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area in such nightclubs as The Top of the Foolery, Mr. Henry’s Capitol Hill, and Olney Inn, she was also capable of performing soul, rhythm and blues, musicals and contemporary music.

It was not until this last decade that she returned to her jazz/swing roots, performing with the Michele Faber Quartet. Her voice harkens back to the golden age of jazz singers and does equal justice to a hard-driving blues, as well as to a smoky ballad. After a lifetime of performing to an elite audience worldwide, she now finds her true voice, wonderfully captured, in this recording.
