As in the previous album, this time it is Nola Blues Records that wants to celebrate its ten years releasing an album with ten perfectly chosen songs that belong to some of the most stunning artists of its catalog.
Nola Blues was founded in 2012 by Sallie Bengtson, a passionate blues lover, with the aim to preserve the legacy of the more traditional blues artists. In 2014 she released the album “Journey” by Benny Turner and, since then on, the company has not stopped to grow and nowadays it has a superb catalog with great artists. Many of the albums released by Nola Blues have been recognized with various awards like Blues Music Awards, Blues Blast Music Awards or Living Blues Critic’s Poll.
To open this impressive compilation, Sallie has selected the song “Breaking News” by Benny Turner from “Journey” album, a shuffle with swampy joyful rhythm and the first one released by Nola Blues Records. Turner adds two more tracks to the album: “It Hurts Me Too” with Cash McCall on vocals and Billy Branch on harmonica and “Who Sang It First”, a single from 2019. The rest of the songs are performed by Frank Bey, Cash McCall, Clarence Spady, Trudy Lynn, John Németh’s The Love Light Orchestra, Lil’ Jimmy Reed and John Németh. Each of the selected songs also counts with the participation and support of a variety of deluxe musicians like, among others, Kid Andersen, Ben Levin, Elvin Bishop, Alabama Mike, Bob Welsh, Teresa James and Yates McKendree, to name just a few.
With this amazing collection of songs Sallie celebrates the tenth anniversary of his record label. Besides, it becomes a good example of artists quality Nola Blues always presents in its catalog. My advice is to keep an eye on all the albums Nola Blues releases, because all them are guarantee of excellence.
