Description

These were the peak years of radio and of course everyone wanted to hear Bing sing, especially during the war years. He was the top movie and recording star of the era. On radio his Kraft Music Hall sometimes attracted audiences of almost 50 million! Guests ranged from opera singers to comedians. We've selected songs from the period 1938 to 1946. None were recorded by Bing commercially. Bing often sang duets and two examples - with Connee Boswell and Marilyn Maxwell are included. These tracks were nearly lost. In the 1960s Eddie Rice, a Crosby fan, visited John Scott Trotter who had led the Kraft orchestra. John Scott revealed that acetates of many of the songs were stored on discs under the floorboards at his home. Rice persuaded Trotter to release the discs. After remastering followed. To call them a revelation would be an understatement.

TUNE IN TO BING
In an era of change and tension – America was emerging from the Depression just as war loomed - Bing’s was one of the few voices that gave reassurance and distraction.
Here, for the first time on CD, are rarelyheard transcripts from the broadcasts that provided such comfort. Evidence, too, of Bing’s relaxed mic technique and his deceptively easy way with all kinds of music.
