To most people Jerry Woodard's Speedway Rock is an unknown recording, after hearing the first bars you will be drawn onto the dance floor due to its alluring sound. The Shape I'm In will be known from Johnny Restivo's up-tempo re-working and Kenny Lee Martin original version is a treat to hear, Johnny Oliver melodic song Sweet Sugar has a wonderful swing in the performance and is a lively stroller. All three titles are most certain "A" grade dance-floor-winners, and the album has only just begun!
The more well-known performers include; the brilliant LaVern Baker who vocalises to the beat of the quasi-religious song On Revival Day, the fantastic Art Neville from his formative years rocked and Cha Dooky-Doo pays testament to this statement. Country artist Merle Kilgore is an unlikely inclusion in the album, and the song Lover's Hell is radically different to his usual style and it's a song that needs to be played.
Stroll-A-Rama features some hit makers; Curtis Lee's dance-crazy inspired The Wobble has a captivating rhythm, doo-woppers The Jarmels teen classic A Little Bit Of Soap is full of melody, and the lesser-known The Royal Lancers Oh Little Girl is a certain lady pleasing classic waiting to be discovered, as is Betty Jayne's cover of Dion's Lonely Teenager .
The rock rhythm strollers are performed by; the Rockin' Saints, Cheat On Me, Frank Zolton, Cats Eyes, James Gallagher, Crazy 'Bout You Baby and Ron Hargrave's Drive In Movie are collectors dream recordings. Jerry Grant and The Rockbilly Bandits, Talkin' About Love and The Ding Dongs, Now We're One are top class and the sleeve notes reveal the identity of the vocalists if you do not already know.
The blues strollers are groovy and Jimmy Nolen's, How Fine Can You Be, along with George Allen's Loose Screws have an underground feel to them, and Monte Easter and His Band title New Orleans Hop is the odd-ball inclusion on the album.
The bonus songs are performed by; Barbara Portland with an original tune I Know Who and original rockabilly artist Huelyn Duvall sings They Won't Let Me In and demonstrates he still had the cat style in his twilight years. Each track invites listeners to get up and strolland gain enjoyment from the pleasure of dancing. Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy the music that puts rhythm into your feet.
