Grammy nominated Harp Ace MARK HUMMEL is moving forward by looking backwards on his new Electro-Fi release WAYBACK MACHINE, and he's picked a sweet spot in Blues history to explore. The glorious Bluebird Records sound from the 1930's and 40's. Joining Mark is first call guitarist BILLY FLYNN, the hot West Coast Combo: The Deep Basement Shakers, and Mississippi Bluesmaster JOE BEARD. The 16 dynamic tracks on this CD were recorded by KID ANDERSEN at Greaseland studios in San Jose, CA. No doubt WAYBACK MACHINE is destined to be one of the most talked about Blues releases of 2020!

Mark Hummel werd geboren in New Haven, Connecticut maar groeide op in Los Angeles, CA. Hij begon professioneel te performen na zijn verhuis in de vroege jaren ’70  naar de San Fancisco Bay Area. Hummel was jarenlang bandleider bij de band The Blues Survivors en is dus werkelijk een blues survivor. In de afgelopen drie decennia ontwikkelde hij zijn eigen handelsmerk, de harmonica. Een subtiele combinatie van frasering en resonerende interacties. De Grammy genomineerde Harp Ace Mark zit sinds 2000 bij het gerenommeerde label Electro-Fi Records. Voor zijn nieuw project heeft hij alweer een geweldige cast bij elkaar weten te hutselen. Naast Hummel, die geweldig harp blaast en uitstekend bij stem is, vinden we afwisselend Joe Beard (vocals, gitaar), The Deep Basement Shakers met Aaron Hammerman (piano) en Dave Eagle op wasboard, bassist R.W. De zestien nummers werden geregistreerd in Chris ‘Kid’Andersen’s Greasland Studios in San Jose, CA.  De plaat ‘Wayback Machine’ katapulteert ons terug naar die geweldige sound van het label Bluebird Records. Het bekende blues platenlabel dat enkele van de meest geprezen opnames van het naoorlogse Chicago van de jaren 1930-40 produceerde. Nummers die oorspronkelijk zijn opgenomen door grootheden als Sonny Boy Williamson’s ‘Cut That Out’ en ‘Good Gal’, Arthur Crudup’s ‘Mean Old Frisco’, de song ‘Play With Your Poodle’ van Tampa Red, Eddie Boyd’s ‘Five Long Years’ en ‘Pepper Mama’ van Robert Nighthawk.
