1. www.lahoradelblues.com – 2018.12.03
BUENISIMO.

Mark Hummel has always been a passionate harmonica lover. As a child he was a really bad student, he has no interest in learning and his life seemed that will have a rather uncertain future. But the harmonica saved him, for the incredible motivation, passion and commitment it gave to him, until he learned to blow with a cool technique and skill this small and, at the same time, great and essential instrument in classic blues. This is a totally instrumental album where the voice has disappeared in all songs. With this recording Hummel wants to pay homage to his mother who recently passed away, as she always encouraged him In all his projects, and also to the instrument that has been with him for almost all his life, bringing him joy, satisfaction and, of course, the necessary money to live with s certain ease. Along the thirteen selected songs that complete this "Harpbreaker", Mark gives us a successful and reliable review of many different blues ways, styles and sounds, producing a unique master-class of how to perform blues with the harmonica, especially with the third position where he feels really comfortable. Besides showing an amazing technique, a rich phrasing and an unbelievable tone, Hummel is backed by some deluxe guitar players like Anson Funderburgh, Kid Andersen, Billy Flynn, Charles Wheal, Rusty Zinn or Little Charlie Baty, together with piano player Bob Welsh, bass player Steve Wolf or drummer Marty Dodson among others. An essential album for all those who deep and passionate love not only blues but also harmonica and all its magnificent possibilities when it is so wonderfully blown, as is the case of this Mark Hummel’s new album. GREAT.
