Description

Great new recordings by the Queen of European Blues with the great Al Cook Band! After a very long time there is a brand-new CD from the queen of european blues, Dana Gillespie. This time she is singing some erotic songs, which are nice to listen to. The CD has brand new material, but also great covers Dana is in a great form! There is no soul blues or rock blues, just pure traditional blues!

British Blues Singer Dana Gillespie, who found a second home in Vienna is well known to have a long-lasting friendship with Al Cook, Austrias pioneer of the local blues-scene. During her career as a worldwide known singer, she recorded a lot of various material in a rather contemporary style, but recently she came around with the idea to release an album that represents another side of her creative singing and composing abilities. Inspired through the so-called „Party Blues“, double entendre songs of the late pre-war era, she wanted to put down some of that „dirty stuff“, as she used to call it.

But who would be the right man to execute the required „down-home“ style and team up with  Europe's Blues Queen on her latest album? Al Cook and his Blues Band.

The result of several days of hard work will soon be out on Wolf-Records International. Released during the late fall of this year it may cause a sensation on the blues-market, because both artists never played together on record. You will almost certainly call it a candy-shop for blues lovers, because it contains a variety of styles, ranging from 20s vaudeville blues to early post-war R&B. Dana Gillespie presents some self-penned material as well as remarkable covers of classic blues-songs, all backed up by Al Cooks experienced Bluesband and his flawless lead guitar.

Danas voice is in habitual great condition and sounds inspired, due to the relaxed and easy-going atmosphere of surrounding friendship.

Just pure and guaranteed traditional, rock-free blues.

BUENISIMO.

Dana Gillespie’s deep classic blues knowledge as well as her amazing talent as singer are totally reflected in this last and warm recording I have on hands. Together with her old friend, colleague and Austrian blues institution, the one and only Al Cook, who taught her the history and secrets of Sun Records sound and the playing of Elvis Presley’s guitarist Scotty Moore, they decided to go on with this fantastic project. This is an album with a selection of erotic blues, those which during the 20’s, 30’s and early 40’s were known as party blues. All songs have been recorded following the old patterns of downhome pre-war and early post-war period, a style that perfectly matches with the idea both Dana and Al had on mind. Besides Dana Gillespie on vocals, you will also find Al Cook on guitar and piano in some songs, Charlie Lloyd on  piano, Harry Hudson on drums and washboard and Miss Karin Daym on double bass. The result can be no other than an intense, superb, honest, juicy and highly satisfying album. All musicians involved know the spirit of old blues style they display with a fluent bright reliability and an extreme passion. Dana’s own compositions and great versions coming from Lil' Johnson, Eubie Blake, Mercy Dee Walton or Big Bill Broonzy round up an album people with sensibility and good taste should not overlook, otherwise they will regret it for the rest of their lives. ESSENTIAL.
