Reviews:

1. AllMusic - Scott Yanow
There are 26 recordings on this imported CD from the English JSP label. These interesting and often historical performances feature a variety of New Orleans veterans, particularly clarinetists Jimmie Noone and Johnny Dodds. Noone is heard on 14 performances including a session with trumpeter Guy Kelly and trombonist Preston Jackson, a particularly strong outing with trumpeter Charlie Shavers and altoist Pete Brown, and on two songs with a group that includes the erratic cornetist Natty Dominique. Dodds's final session uses the same Dominique group but his earlier sextet set with Shavers is much more rewarding. In addition there are two songs apiece from trumpeter Red Allen and drummer Zutty Singleton, both recorded the same day in 1940 with the identical personnel. In general the music is quite enjoyable and, Dominique excepted, the veterans and relative youngsters (Shavers was 20) play quite well.
