“Pine Leaf Boys represent the youth wing of Cajun music and, like some of their contemporaries in the English tradition, combine gold-plated pedigree (accordionist Wilson Savoy is the son of Marc and Ann), all-round musical talent, and shedloads of energy and attitude.  Savoy is just as fine a player as you’d expect, while fiddler Cedric Watson is a soaring risk-taker as well as an accomplished player, and a worthy heir to his hero Canray Fontenot.  As singers, both are heartfelt if occasionally wayward, the best voice belonging to Drew Simon behind the drumkit.
The repertoire is refreshingly unhackneyed, with many songs from little-known old sources…, more waltzes than recent fashion has preferred, and some exquisite pieces of Cajun melancholia.  They like to fashion new songs from old ones, notably Simon’s soulfully-sung Festival Acadien Waltz and Watson’s Zydeco-flavoured Chez Moreau, while Savoy’s Pine Leaf Boy Two-Step shows a promising flair for new composition.”
